Tchaikovsky, dead at 53!
This day 125 years ago, the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky died at age 53, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. During his lifetime, Tchaikovsky composed seven symphonies, eleven operas, three ballets, five suites, three piano concertos, one violin concerto, three overtures, eight single-movement orchestral pieces, four cantatas, twenty choral works, three string quartets, a sextet, and more than a hundred songs. To say the man was anything less than a prolific composer would be an injustice. For this post, I thought I would include Tchaikovsky's Hymn of the Cherubin. Enjoy!
